Pilot Club lights up courthouse lawn

The Pilot Club of Marion held its annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony Sunday in front of the McDowell County Courthouse. The club also read the names of those who are honored with a special light on the courthouse lawn's big Christmas tree.
Lucille Huffman welcomed local officials and others who attended the annual event. Huffman is the Pilot International Foundation director for the local club and a past president.
This year, the Pilot Club of Marion is using the money raised from the memorial and honorary lights for a special effort called "Project Life Saver." The purpose is to supply high-tech electronic bracelets for autistic children, as well as for Alzheimer's disease and dementia patients. The local club is working with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office on this effort
Sheriff Dudley Greene said the bracelets can help authorities find a lost person within 30 minutes.
Treasurer Vangie Hollifield read the names of those honored with a light and the people who purchased them.
