Mark Revis thinks the city of Marion needs a new direction.
Revis, 43, filed Wednesday as a candidate for the Marion City Council. He is making his first attempt at seeking elected office.
"I feel like the common ordinary people in the city don't have a voice," he said. "If you are not a lawyer or one of the businesses in the downtown, no one wants to listen to you."
If elected, Revis said he would be that voice.
"Our city needs a new direction," said Revis. "We need fresh ideas on the council. I want to see Marion grow. If we don't do something soon and the way the economy is, the town is going to dry up. I love Marion and I love McDowell County and I think it is time new people take over."
Revis worked for 20 years as an industrial maintenance technician, first at the Ethan Allen plant in Old Fort and later at the Coats North America plant. But he lost his full-time job.
"Like many people in this city and county, I've been laid off," he said.
He works part time as the head football coach at West McDowell Junior High School.
A resident of 26 Reid St., he has a daughter.
