The McDowell Lady Titans golf team finished in a fourth-place tie in its home match at Marion Lake Club Monday. It was the final regular-season match for the Lady Titans.
The Mountain Athletic Conference teams had previously decided to play 18 holes, but rainy weather forced them to shorten the event to nine holes. T.C. Roberson shot 131 to place first by a wide margin.
North Buncombe (149) placed second and was followed by A.C. Reynolds (154), McDowell (157), Enka (157), Asheville (159) and Erwin (171).
Senior Bethaney Lewis carded a 47 to lead the Lady Titans. Caitlin Lackey and Haley Goforth each shot 55 and Morgan Hemphill had a 57.
"The Lake Club was wonderful, and we appreciate all the help we get from them," said McDowell head coach Charles Webber. "(Lake Club Pro) Greg Parker and J.J. Laughridge have helped us a lot. We also appreciate Mr. Talbert (MHS Principal Ben Talbert) for coming out and staying for the whole match. He is a great supporter."
McDowell placed second last Thursday in a non-conference match at Sugar Mountain. McDowell shot 153 to place behind Mountain Heritage (143) and ahead of Avery (166).
Tristian Gaddis shot 49 for McDowell, while Lewis shot 51 and Hemphill a 53.
Webber said he appreciated the efforts of seniors Lackey and Lewis.
"They've both done a great job," said Webber. "We're going to miss them. I wish them the best."
Lewis will compete in the West Regional tournament next Monday at Cedar Rock in Lenoir. Madalyn Davis has also qualified for the regional, but a shoulder injury may keep her from competing.
