The McDowell Titans soccer team played well throughout regulation against the North Buncombe Blackhawks.
But unfortunately for the Titans, there was more to the game than that. North Buncombe scored a pair of goals in the overtime sessions to pull off a hard-fought 4-2 win over the Titans on the road Monday night.
"(It was a) Great game until the overtime started," said McDowell head coach Chris Ruebusch. "All the boys played well and it was hard-fought and physical."
The Titans got their first goal on a beautiful free kick by Walter Cervantes. McDowell's second score came from Alex Montoya, playing in his first varsity match.
Ruebusch said Montoya, Eli Campos and McKenzie McCoyle all played exceptional games.
The Titans hosted Erwin Wednesday. Results were not available at presstime. McDowell hosts Asheville next Monday (5 p.m. start—jayvees, 7 p.m. start—varsity) in the regular-season home finale.
