The East McDowell Lady Trojans opened the second half of the Foothills Conference softball season with a 13-3 win against East Burke in five innings.
East scored runs in the first and second innings to take a brief 2-0 lead. East Burke answered with a pair of runs in the fourth inning to pull even.
From that point the Lady Trojans regained command as they scored seven runs in the next at bat.
Kameron Banks, Madison Wallace and Tori Nichols each drove in two runs in the inning.
After the Lady Raiders scored a run in the fifth, East again opened the flood gates, scoring four more times to force the mercy rule. Banks drove in two more runs in the frame along with a run-scoring single by Lala McKinney.
West McDowell 23, Table Rock 1 (softball)
The West McDowell Lady Spartans made short work of the Table Rock Lady Falcons 23-1 in a game that was called after three innings of play.
Savannah Smith earned a win for West on the mound, working three innings and allowing a run on three hits. Smith walked one and struck out four batters.
The Lady Spartans exploded offensively, scoring 23 runs on 21 hits. All nine West McDowell starters got at least one hit in the contest.
Bailey Stiwinter (3 RBIs) and Karly McRary (4 RBIs) had four hits each. Marissa Sisk (2 RBIs) had three hits.
Maddison Waycaster (4 RBIs), Cheyenne Roberts (3 RBIs) and Cierra McClure (4 RBIs) had two hits apiece. Roberts belted a two-run home run to center field in the second to start the long rally.
Smith (RBI), along with Hannah Phillips and Macy Morgan, each had one hit in the contest.
West McDowell 84, Walter Johnson 40 (girls track and field)
West McDowell had no trouble running away from Walter Johnson at a recent track meet.
Chelsea Hobson had first-place finishes in the 1,600 meters, 800 meters and 4X400 relay to lead the way. Cheyenne Roberts added first places in both the 100 meters and the high jump. Madison Allendorf captured first in the 400 and 4X400 relay.
Other first-place winners included Courtney Austin (discus), Sierra Westbrook (triple jump), Destiny Bartlett (long jump), Kia Stacey (100 meters), Kim Rivas (4X400) and Amber Benge (800).
Second-place winners for the Lady Spartans included Austin (shot), Allendorf (800), Westbrook (long jump), Megan Morris (discus), Amy Rodriguez (400), Tyler Windham (hurdles), Bartlett (high jump) and Rivas (100).
Third-place finishers included Morris (shot), Talah Brittain (discus), Rodriguez (hurdles, 200), Samantha Reese (1,600, 800), Bartlett (triple jump) and Hayley Taylor (800).
