MHS jayvees stay on top

The McDowell Titans and Lady Titans jayvees remained on top of the Mountain Athletic Conference standings thanks to a pair of wins by each squad over the past few days.
The Lady Titans (12-4 overall, 8-0 MAC) earned a 51-30 win Wednesday at North Buncombe.
Nicole Mills had a big night, leading the way with 25 points. Jessica Patrick also placed in double figures with 18 points.
Taylor Miller added six points. Courtney Buchanan and Shaniqua Lynch netted one point each.
Wednesday's victory came on the heels of a 54-30 blowout against T.C. Roberson in Skyland last Friday.
Mills also led the way that afternoon with 12 points. Miller and Patrick added 11 each against the Lady Rams.
Shellie Riddle scored six points. Ejustis Ledbetter tallied five points. Lynch and Buchanan netted four each against Roberson.
McDowell 54, North Buncombe 40 (jayvee boys)
The McDowell Titans (15-0, 8-0) remained perfect on the season as they slid past North Buncombe 54-40 Wednesday afternoon in Weaverville.
Ethan Freeman was the only McDowell player in double figures with 11 points and five assists.
Daniel Jackson (8 rebounds) added nine points. Cedarius Avery and Zach Moore netted seven points each. Trey Biddix chipped in five points. Matt Carroll (6 assists, 6 rebounds) and Jared Helms rounded out the Titans offense with four points each.
McDowell 39, T.C. Roberson 35 (jayvee boys)
The Titans' toughest test of the season occurred Friday against the T.C. Roberson Rams.
But in the end, the Titans showed their form as they prevailed 39-35.
Seven McDowell players scored in the contest. Cedarius Avery led the Titans with 15 points. Ethan Freeman netted eight points. Delanta Rodriguez added seven points. Matt Carroll tallied five points. Zach Moore, Daniel Jackson and Jared Helms combined for seven points to account for the rest of the McDowell offense.
McDowell hosts Erwin today (4 p.m. start—jayvee girls), weather permitting.
