It was a strong day on the links for the McDowell Titans golf team as they secured a second-place team finish in a recent home match at the Marion Lake Club.
A.C. Reynolds, led by three golfers who shot sub-80 rounds, took the win with a team score of 313. Tyler Grooms led the Rockets with a score of 75. David Ellingboro followed Grooms with a 77 and Rich Cordell scored 79.
The Titans finished in second (320) only seven strokes behind the Rockets. Taylor Newman led the entire field, shooting a 74. Adam Edwards complimented Newman on the links, scoring a career-best 77.
Skylar Ledbetter (82) and Tyler Porter (87) also were solid enough to finish in McDowell's top four.
"I am very proud of our guys and how they have worked very hard all year to improve so much from last season," said McDowell head coach Tony Davis. "Taylor really shined with his 74 and Adam turned in his best score ever. All in all, the boys really performed well against some good competition. I can't say enough how proud I am."
T.C. Roberson (329) finished in third place. Enka and North Buncombe tied for fourth with team scores of 349.
