Drake Moretz, 10, has qualified to compete in the Southern Zone Eastern Section age-group swimming championships in Charlotte March 12-14.
Moretz will compete against swimmers from North and South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and West Virginia.
In order to qualify, swimmers must achieve a certain time in a given event. Moretz has qualified in the 50-meter butterfly, 100 fly, 50 freestyle, 100 free and 50 backstroke.
Moretz swims for the Asheville Swim Club, a USA Swimming-affiliated team. He also swims for the McDowell Mariners summer league team. He is the son of Chad and April Moretz.
