A new alderwoman for Old Fort took the oath of office Monday morning while the town's mayor and one of the incumbent aldermen were likewise sworn in for another term.
The swearing in ceremony for the Old Fort Board of Aldermen was held Monday morning at the Old Fort Depot. It was the only regular meeting for the board set for December.
Judge Bob Hunter of the N.C. Court of Appeals administered the oaths. Sue Crawford Gibbs, who was elected last month, was the first to take the oath. She is starting her first term as a member of the board.
Hunter also administered the oath to Wayne Stafford who was re-elected in November to another term as an alderman. Garland Norton next took the oath to begin another term as mayor of Old Fort.
Norton then presented a plaque to outgoing Alderman Pete Matthews, in recognition for his 16 years of service to Old Fort.
