A Christmas Eve dispute at an assisted living facility landed one resident at the hospital and another behind bars.
This is the second assault at the home in two months.
McDowell County sheriff's deputies were called to Cedarbrook Residential Center around 9 p.m. Thursday when 34-year-old Thomas Lee Copeland and 34-year-old Danny Authur Donaldson, who both live at the facility, got into a dispute over a woman, according to reports from the Sheriff's Office.
The documents stated that Donaldson took a swing at Copeland and the two began wrestling. That's when Donaldson stabbed the victim with a pocketknife, said Capt. Vic Hollifield.
Copeland suffered five stab wounds to his left side at the bottom of his rib cage, the captain stated. He was taken to The McDowell Hospital.
Lt. Steve Hensley charged Donaldson with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
In late October, two Cedarbrook residents got into a squabble over $4.25. According to authorities, 43-year-old Kenneth Hayward beat 66-year-old Walter Davis with his fists. Davis later died, and Hayward faces a murder charge.
