Five people received a startling wakeup call Wednesday morning when local and federal authorities stormed a mobile home in search of drugs.
Shortly after 6 a.m., members of the McDowell County Sheriff's Office, the Marion Police Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) raided the 4691 Nix Creek Road residence occupied by 33-year-old Timmy Allen Boyce.
They pulled five people from inside the home then called for U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer Jason Crisp and his K-9, Maros. The officers and the dog searched inside the residence, the interior and exterior of an outbuilding and a couple of cars parked in the driveway.
Detective Jason Grindstaff of the Sheriff's Office said they came away with 22 grams of powder cocaine, a gram of crack cocaine, a small amount of marijuana, numerous pain pills, drug paraphernalia and more than $6,000 in cash.
Grindstaff added that authorities have been investigating Boyce in connection with illegal drug activity since before 1998.
He charged Boyce with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule III controlled substance and maintaining a place to keep a controlled substance.
Also arrested was 23-year-old Megan Elaine Grant, also of the Nix Creek Road residence. She was charged with possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
Three other people at the home during the time of the raid were not charged.
