Two teen suspects got alarmed, which thwarted their attempt at a crime spree last week, authorities say.
Investigator Rick Gutierrez of the Marion Police Department charged 18-year-old Rodney Dale Kyle Williamson of Seagle Street in Marion and 16-year-old Skyler Allen Jones of Green Street Loop in Marion with three counts each of felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor injury to property and one count of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle.
Williamson was also charged with a simple assault offense out of Burke County.
The teens' crime spree started around 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22 when they busted the window out of a truck in the parking lot of JB's Galaxy on East Court Street, according to Gutierrez.
"They couldn't find anything inside of the truck to steal, so all they took was a screwdriver," said the detective.
The vehicle, owned by David Mull of Marion, received $200 worth of damage.
The pair then went to Kwik Mart on East Court Street and threw a rock at the door. The glass didn't break, but the alarm sounded.
Williamson and Jones then ventured to Arizona Pawn on Baldwin Avenue and wanted to break in to steal guns, Gutierrez stated. They tried to pry open the door with the screwdriver, but the tool broke and, again, the alarm sounded.
The two saw a police officer and fled into the woods.
Later, they came out and attempted to bust their way into the ABC store on East Court Street, said the detective. They tried once again to throw something through the glass, but it wouldn't break. The alarm went off.
Gutierrez stated that the two teens were drinking during their alleged crime spree.
