A truck wreck on Interstate 40 early Thursday morning shut down the road for hours.
Around 1:30 a.m., Roger Dale Jenkins, 57, of Maryville, Tenn. was driving a 2005 Freightliner east near the Burke-McDowell line, when he ran off the road, hit a guardrail and his load of bagged flour shifted, causing the rig to overturn, according to Trooper R.W. Monosso of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Both eastbound lanes were blocked for about six hours. Traffic was rerouted onto U.S. 70.
Jenkins was not injured. The trooper charged him with exceeding a safe speed.
