Authorities have arrested a Nebo man whom they say, after his father died, carried on the "family business" of selling prescription pills out of their home.
Following a months-long investigation, detectives with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office and the Marion Police Department and agents with the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles raided the 100 Sherwood Forest Drive residence of 37-year-old Johnny Daniel Harrison Jr. Friday.
Sgt. Shanon Smith, who heads the Sheriff's Office's narcotics division, said they came away with a variety of pills, including possibly Ecstacy, and drug paraphernalia. However, Harrison has not been charged with any drug offenses at this time.
Smith added that the pills have been sent to a state lab, and, after they are identified, Harrison will face further charges.
Friday, the suspect was taken into custody on various violations relating to a recent high-speed chase with state troopers and also on two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. He was jailed under a $51,500 bond.
"We had been buying prescription pills from his dad, Johnny Daniel Harrison Sr., at the same residence," said the sergeant. "He died, and we continued buying from his son."
Agents with the DMV were present at the search to check numerous vehicles on the property, according to Smith.
