The Marion Christian Academy Knights basketball team opened up its season by winning the Tuscaloosa Tip Off Tournament in Alabama last week.
The Knights went 4-0 in pool play. Marion Christian won a hard-fought game over the host team to advance to the championship game where they defeated the Pensacola Warriors 82-73.
The Knights put six players in double figures in the title game. Junior exchange student Shaquille Semynette led all scorers with 13 points and pulled eight rebounds. Junior transfer Christian McClendon had 12 points, eight boards and four blocks. Senior Johnny Wrenn narrowly missed a triple-double with 12 points, eight boards and eight assists.
Brent Nichols and Zach Cotter (4 assists) tossed in 12 each and Brandon Marsh netted 10.
Marion Christian visits New Manna tonight at 7:30.
