These three suspects might be looking at a "change" of scenery after authorities say they caught the trio breaking into a car wash coin machine.
At 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Old Fort police officers responded to a breaking and entering in progress at the Old Fort Car Wash.
Upon arrival, Cpl. Roger Manis saw two men vandalizing the coin-operated machine and noticed a third person in a getaway vehicle, according to a press release from Chief Melvin Lytle.
The driver fled in the blue later-model Chevrolet Celebrity, so Manis notified the McDowell County Sheriff's Office concerning the descriptions of the automobile and the suspect.
Manis took the other two men into custody.
Old Fort Officer Dewey Lawson stopped the Chevrolet on U.S. 70 heading out of Old Fort, the release stated. Lawson, with assistance from Lt. Steve Hensley and Deputies Jacob Crowder and Greg Stevenson of the McDowell County Sheriff's Office, searched the automobile and found the stolen money and burglary tools, said the press release.
Jamie Lee Teague, 21, of Marshall was charged with breaking and entering a coin-operated machine and possession of burglary tools. He was taken into custody in lieu of an $8,000 bond.
Charles Wilkins, 21, of Asheville was charged with breaking and entering a coin-operated machine. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
Matthew David Thomas, 29, of Candler was charged with breaking and entering a coin-operated machine and possession of burglary tools. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
