Drugs were fake, sentence is real

Fake drugs got him in real trouble.

Jamie Roderick Brown, 37, of Grandview Circle in Marion recently pleaded guilty in McDowell County Superior Court to possession with intent to sell and deliver a counterfeit controlled substance and creating a counterfeit controlled substance

Judge Bradley B. Letts gave Brown an eight- to 10-month suspended sentence and placed him on supervised probation for 24 months. He was ordered to spend six months on intensive supervised probation, perform 72 hours of community service and pay court costs, a $500 fine and restitution of $487.50 for a court-appointed attorney.

Authorities arrested Brown on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at a residence off Deer Park Road in Nebo as part of an ongoing investigation.

Detectives said at the time of his arrest Brown had Goody powder that he was trying to pass as crack cocaine.

The following defendants also appeared Oct. 26 to 30 in McDowell County Superior Court:

-- Mateo Hernandez Garcia, 28, of Forest City pleaded guilty to two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
The judge sentenced him to 17 to 21 months in prison and ordered that he pay $50 for an interpreter and $2,240 for a court-appointed attorney. Garcia must also register as a sex offender for 30 years.

-- Brian Keith Greene, 38, of Waycaster Road in Marion pleaded guilty to two counts of felony larceny and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
He was given a 10- to 12-month suspended sentence and was placed on supervised probation for 36 months. He was ordered to serve 59 days in jail and was given credit for that amount of time spent in pretrial confinement. Greene must also pay court costs, a $400 fine, restitution of $2,825 to the victims in the cases and reimbursement of $1,012.50 for a court-appointed attorney.
