The McDowell Lady Titans knew they'd have to TCB — take care of business — against the Asheville Cougars Thursday in order to keep their hopes of a Mountain Athletic Conference title intact headed into the final week of the season.
Elvis would have been downright proud.
The Lady Titans (15-6 overall, 8-2 MAC) dispatched the Cougars easily in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-9 and 25-12. McDowell is at A.C. Reynolds Tuesday (5 p.m. start—jayvees, 6 p.m. start—varsity) and at Enka Thursday.
"We have a big week coming up as we face A.C. Reynolds and Enka," said Lady Titans head coach Stephanie Pace. "We hold our destiny in our own hands. It's going to come down to heart, determination and execution. I'm looking forward to seeing how we perform."
The Asheville match was the final regular-season home game of the year, and the Lady Titans honored their lone senior, Lauren Mills, before the game.
Mills then turned in a quality performance, registering two kills and 11 digs.
"She (Mills) played very well tonight," said Pace. "She has played through an injury the last couple of weeks. She has had a very positive attitude and superb work ethic all season. We will miss her greatly next year."
Hannah Lewis recorded seven aces, five kills, 10 digs and a block assist for the Lady Titans.
Tuccoa Brackett had two aces, six kills, three solo blocks, two block assists and seven digs.
Tera Anderson added 14 digs, 10 assists and six aces.
Megan Gouge had six kills, one solo block and two block assists.

And Mary Webb had eight aces and seven digs.
The Lady Titans jayvees also defeated Asheville in straight sets, winning 25-13 and 25-21.
