The East McDowell Lady Trojans volleyball team picked up a three-game sweep (25-5, 25-9, 25-11) against East Burke in recent volleyball action.
With the win, East improves to 5-1 on the season.
Kylee Lenon scored eight service points including two kills. Leslie Rice (2 kills) added seven points. Leslie Frankllin (4 kills) scored six service points and Kassie Brackett had four points. Amber Fulbright made seven assists and Erin Mills added six assists.
West McDowell 5, Liberty 0 (girls soccer)
The West McDowell Lady Spartans soccer team picked up a pair of wins last week against Liberty and Walter Johnson.
The Lady Spartans made easy work against the Liberty Lady Knights 5-0. Courtney Austin netted four goals in the contest while Abbey Taylor (2 assists) added one goal. Talah Brittain recorded 10 saves at goalkeeper.
West McDowell 3, Walter Johnson 2 (girls soccer)
West (8-0) continued its winning ways a couple days later, holding off Walter Johnson 3-2 in a match that went to penalty kicks.
Courtney Austin accounted for the only Lady Spartans goal in regulation with an assist from Chelsea Hobson. Talah Brittain had 10 saves at keeper for the second consecutive match.
Abbey Taylor and Megan Morris accounted for two successful scores during the tiebreaker. Austin took the reigns of keeper during the shootout, saving three of five shots.
