The former Winn-Dixie building is alive again – with the dead.
"Max Maven's Dark House" haunted house fund-raiser debuts at the old grocery store in Marion tonight and Saturday and continues from Oct. 28 to 31 from 6 p.m. to midnight.
The event is sponsored by the McDowell County chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police. Admission is $6 per person, and proceeds help provide heating oil for the elderly and gifts for needy children at Christmas.
Described as a "sicko crime scene investigation," "Max Maven's Dark House" plunges you into pitch-black passageways and walk-in coolers to see this twisted criminal's collection of fresh and not-so-fresh bodies.
"All ages are welcome, but the faint of heart are encouraged to visit from 6 to 7 p.m. to avoid being scared to death," said Kellie Duncan, one of the organizers. "The really scary monsters come out from 7 p.m. until midnight."
Just when it seems things can't get scarier, you realize that some of the dead people are not so dead after all. Creatures lurk in the blackness and anxiously await your arrival.
