All things considered, McDowell Lady Titans sophomore Madalyn Davis had a pretty successful trip to the N.C. 4A State golf championships Monday and Tuesday.
Davis, who missed two weeks of the season with a shoulder injury and returned to action just in time for last week's West Regionals, shot 185 (91-94) in the two-day event at Foxfire in Pinehurst.
"I thought she did great after missing two weeks," said Lady Titans head coach Charles Webber. "She drove the ball extremely well. She was usually in the fairways and about 230 to 260 yards. But her short game just wasn't there. I think that's where the layoff hurt her. But she had a great attitude throughout.
"She's just a sophomore, and I expect to see a lot out of her in the future."
Catherine Perry of Athens Drive won the individual championship with a 144 (73-71).
Ardry Kell's Allison Emory and Athens Drive's Sarah Bey tied for second with 148s. Emory claimed second on tiebreaker criteria.
Athens Drive (458) won the 4A team championship with relative ease. Ardry Kell, the defending champion, was second with a 467.
Ragsdale was third with a 505.
Individually, Davis, a two-time state qualifier, finished 51st in a field of 80 golfers.
