A Burke County teen admitted in McDowell County Superior Court last week to a sexual encounter with a 12-year-old girl.
A. Kevin Thor, 19, of B&D Avenue in Morganton pleaded guilty to two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and one count of second-degree kidnapping. Judge Laura J. "Suzy" Bridges handed Thor a 29- to 44-month suspended sentence and placed him on supervised probation for 36 months. He must spend nine months on intensive supervised probation, perform 72 hours of community service and pay court costs, restitution of $68 to the victim in the cases and reimbursement of $393.75 for a court-appointed attorney.
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, Thor picked the girl up from school and took her to his residence in Morganton, according to Investigator Rick Gutierrez of the Marion Police Department. He added that, while there, Thor and the 12-year-old had sexual intercourse and he gave her methamphetamine.
When Marion and Burke County authorities went to the suspect's home to arrest him, they found more meth, as well as a pot plant, in the house, Gutierrez stated.
The detective said the girl's parents filed a missing person report when they couldn't find her, then brought her to the police department the following day when she returned home.
