The trio authorities say they caught red-handed breaking into a car wash coin machine is facing more charges in connection with a second similar crime.
Officers with the Old Fort Police Department charged Jamie Lee Teague, 21, of Marshall; Matthew David Thomas, 29, of Candler; and Charles Wilkins, 21, of Asheville in mid-November after responding to a breaking and entering in progress at the Old Fort Car Wash.
Upon arrival, they saw two men vandalizing a coin-operated machine and noticed a third person in a getaway vehicle, according to a press release.
A search of the car revealed stolen money and burglary tools, the release stated.
Detective Kevin Fineberg of the McDowell County Sheriff's Office has since charged the three with possession of burglary tools and injury to personal property. Teague and Thomas were taken into custody on Nov. 23 and released on written promises to appear in court. Wilkins has not been located.
Fineberg stated that the three attempted to break into a coin machine at Zip Wash car wash on U.S. 70 West prior to the Old Fort crime.
They were caught on camera at Zip Wash. Old Fort officers viewed the tape and identified the trio as the three arrested in Old Fort, according to Fineberg.
