Honda: Local IAC plant among best

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Honda officials presented double awards Thursday to the International Automotive Components plant in Old Fort. Honda honored the local facility, which makes interior carpets for automobiles, for its outstanding delivery and productivity.
Honda officials presented IAC with the Delivery and Productivity Award, based on the plant's improvements during the calendar year. The award was given during a ceremony inside the plant that included IAC workers and local government officials.
The Honda Odyssey's floor carpet and dash insulator and the Honda Pilot's floor carpet are both produced at the Old Fort plant. IAC was one of only three suppliers who achieved the double award for delivery and productivity.
"Honda thinks highly of this facility," said Andrew Kennedy, IAC representative. "This is a facility they don't have to worry about."
Honda presented awards this year to 60 suppliers. Of those, only 10 achieved the double award status. And the IAC plant in Old Fort was one of only three suppliers that achieved the delivery and productivity double awards.
Production associate Vicki Biggerstaff and Plant Manager Dave Sudzina accepted the award on behalf of the employees.
"You look like you have a good strong team," said Scott Morris, staff engineer with Honda of America, as he made the presentation.
Honda is this year celebrating its 50th year in the American market. IAC is among the first American automotive suppliers to earn Honda's business back in 1976 for making carpeting for the Honda Accord. That carpeting was made at the Old Fort plant, which was called Collins & Aikman at the time.
International Automotive Components Group is a leading global supplier of automotive components and systems, including interior and exterior trim and structural and functional applications. IAC's annual global revenue is approximately $4.5 billion.
