We've pointed out before in this space that the immutable laws of Nature and of Nature's God indicate that the American people will only ever vote for Democrats and Republicans. It doesn't matter if the Republicans are caught operating abortion clinics and the Democrats are caught praying in school in their spare time, 90 percent of you will just vote for them again. And again.
There are always a few folks whose understanding of good citizenship means upholding and defending the Constitution. That quaint anachronism will get anywhere from two to six percent of the vote in a national election. But big, flatulent government will win every time. That's the American way and it's what the Americans like.
There are local and regional exceptions, thrillingly enough, and those exceptions are why the federals always like to cast such ideas as states' rights, sovereignty and freedom as "code words for racism."
Certain states' legislatures (North Carolina is not among them) are entertaining resolutions reaffirming that they are sovereign entities and that they created the federal government. They order the federals to cease and desist all acts of usurpation and demand the federals limit themselves to their lawfully enumerated activities only.
Last year Oklahoma's House of Representatives passed just such a resolution, by an amazing 92-3 margin. Of course the weak little sissies in the state's Senate refused to even allow the matter to be debated, let alone come to a vote. The resolution has been re-introduced in the current session as HJR 1003. It is well worth reading.
Similar resolutions are currently being considered in 19 other states. Ponder that a spell. Legislatures in 20 states are seriously considering throwing off the blood-sucking leaches who tax us and jail us and threaten us and subvert our laws. Of course, it'll never happen in North Carolina. Being a Democrat or a Republican in North Carolina means never questioning your betters.
It sounds like a hoax, does it not? Surely if this were happening you would be hearing about it on TV or in Time Magazine or perhaps the New York Times or Washington Post, the so-called national newspapers of record? In fact, no, the New York/Washington media believe their god is eternal and supreme. And yet, there they are, plain as life on the various states' legislative calendars.
There are legislators out there who still are loyal to the law rather than the party juggernauts. And it is very important to note that in several of these states, the measures are receiving support from both of the so-called parties. Could it be that the federal government might one day be pressured into obeying the law? Could it be that Democrats and Republicans are teetering on the edge of irrelevance?
Fat chance, I reckon. The last time anyone tried limiting the federal government and asserting freedom and the rule of law, the president of the United States declared martial law. He had several thousand newspapers destroyed, tens of thousands of Americans locked up in military prisons, and ordered soldiers of the U.S. Army to launch a wave of terror. His soldiers and mercenaries burned crops, slaughtered cattle, destroyed schools and desecrated churches. Rape, riot, looting, arson and murder were the order of the day. A couple of decades of engineered famine followed. Given 20th century military technology, Lincoln could have achieved a death toll to make Hitler and Stalin jealous.
Death, slander, prison and civil forfeiture are the rewards the United States government gives to Americans who suggest that the law had ought to be upheld. To our lords and masters in Washington, lawful government, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are "tin foil hat, black helicopter militia-nut stuff." Or to use Lincoln's quaint 19th century terminology, "treason and rebellion." Several million murdered Americans prove that the government is not playing a game, and they have no intention of even discussing the matter. As Lincoln declared so long ago, the federal government is the sole judge of the limits of federal power. They intend to win every round.
It takes truly great leaders to stand up in the face of tyranny, or else shockingly naïve ones, at least. Twenty states are considering demanding freedom. That is truly amazing, and a great testament to the brave ones who gave all in the Revolution.
There is the slightest possibility that, given the looming depression and coming collapse of Federal Reserve dollars, the federals will simply collapse under the weight of their own corruption, just like the Soviets did not so long ago. In which case some man like the great Walter E. Williams might emerge as our own Boris Yeltsin, drunkenly shouting about freedom from atop an out-of-fuel tank.
