Authorities are saying very little about a raid on a Marion business Monday morning.
Federal and local officers searched American Booster Club Co., located at 675 E. Court St., around 8:30 a.m. and hauled dozens of boxes from the building, according to witnesses.
Various Web sites list Mimi Wyatt as the owner of the business, which bills itself "fund-raising consultants."
American Booster Club sells promotional items. Businesses usually purchase the merchandise, advertise on it and give it to schools or other organizations.
Folks speaking on the condition of anonymity to The McDowell News have pondered if the raid was related to finances.
One Marion restaurant owner said she paid $380 to American Booster Club for cups on which she advertised. The cups, also promoting the McDowell High Titans, were supposed to be given to the high school for distribution.
The restaurant owner stated that she received one sleeve of cups and never saw the remainder. However, she never reported it to police.
"I tried calling and calling (American Booster Club), but I never got anyone," she said. "I gave up and didn't pursue it anymore."
Federal authorities are investigating. Further information was unavailable.
