The quality of healthcare available to Spot and Puff in McDowell has earned prestigious national recognition. Doctors Suzanne Sewell and Kathy Campbell announced this week that Crestview Veterinary Hospital in Marion has achieved AAHA accreditation.

The AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) is a long established professional organization and, according to its literature, is the only accrediting organization for veterinary hospitals in North America.

The recognition is an achievement not only for the doctors, but for the entire staff at Crestview, according to a press release.

"It is a vigorous accreditation process," the release stated, in which "practices are tested to meet more than 900 quality standards, ranging from patient care to team training and record keeping."

Crestview has served animals and their owners in McDowell and surrounding counties for more than 19 years.

Services include routine care, preventative medicine and vaccinations, as well as high tech procedures such as radiology and ultrasound. Crestview's facility includes inpatient care. Grooming and boarding is also available.

Dr. Sewell also offers holistic treatments, including acupuncture, chiropractic and herbal medicine.

Founded in 1933, the AAHA presently serves approximately 6,000 practice teams in the U.S. and Canada, and more than 40,000 veterinary care providers in North America and overseas, according to the group's Web site.

The AAHA keeps members up to date on the latest in techniques and practices, both medical and administrative. The organization has been recognized for its dedication to professional development, for its hospital accreditation standards, and for the excellence of its education programs.
