In Old Fort there's no question what is the cultural event of the season. It's the Old Fort School Reunion -- hosted by the classes of 1939, '49, '59 and '69 -- and PTO Fall Fling.
Old Fort Principal Charles Gaffigan said it's more than just the cultural event of the year, there's an almost sacred obligation to pull out all the stops.
"The biggest cussing I have ever received," he said, was during his second year at the post, when the festival and highlight variety show was limited to one night. That show sold out, "and we had to turn them away at the door."
Friday and Saturday will see events and attractions for all, as the PTO's Fall Fling kicks off with entertainment and fun activities. Come hungry Friday for a $4.50 hot dog supper beginning at 5:30 and stay for the show.
Old Fort's own divas of down home hilarity, Maude & Ethel, return to host the variety show, dubbed Maude & Ethel's Family Reunion (and Friends Too). Tickets to the show are $5, and the audience will get a unique chance to see the familiar faces of Old Fort strutting their stuff, displaying their amazing talents and performing breathtaking stunts.
They'll be joined by school staff and familiar faces from all over town in skits like "You're the Reason our Kids Are So Ugly," Girls Just Want to Have Fun," "Dancing Queens," "Thriller," "The Streak," Night and Day" and that old favorite, "Squirrel Revival."
Saturday is jam packed, as the Old Fort School Annual Social Reunion begins Saturday morning a 9 a.m. sharp.
Saturday's supper menu will feature pizza and salad, beginning at 5:30 p.m. for $5 a plate.
