Media General, the parent company of the Hickory Daily Record, Statesville R&L, Morganton News Herald, McDowell News, Concord & Kannapolis Independent Tribune and Mooresville Tribune, announced that all employees would be required to take five more unpaid furlough days by the end of the year.
Media General has previously furloughed employees for 10 days in the first three quarters of the year. The latest plan requires all employees to take another furlough day in the third quarter and four in the fourth quarter.
Jim Conschafter, the president of the North Carolina market for Media General, said that the additional furloughs were required because of unanticipated shortfalls in advertising revenues companywide.
