An area trio amassed 27 years in federal prison after recently being convicted in a crack cocaine conspiracy.
The three conspired to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams of cocaine base, commonly known as crack cocaine, from January 2005 to the present in McDowell County, according to a federal indictment.
All three pleaded guilty to their charge.
-- Warren Edward Forney, 47, of Forest City was sentenced on Jan. 22, 2010 to 180 months (15 years) in prison followed by five years of supervised release. He appealed the verdict.
-- William Eric Avery, 43, of East Grayson Street in Marion was sentenced on June 1, 2009 to 87 months (seven years and three months) in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
-- Monikia Tyree Credle, 21, of Dusty Arch Drive in Marion was sentenced on June 2, 2009 to 57 months (four years and nine months) in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
Federal terms of imprisonment are served without the possibility of parole.
"Warren was the key player, the source supply," said Investigative Lt. Chris Taylor of the Marion Police Department. "The other two sold for him."
Taylor thanked all those involved in this case.
"At the time, they were a problem in the community and in Rutherford County," he stated. "We are still working on others. We are doing a lot that the public can't see. We just want the people who call us to know that their complaints aren't falling on deaf ears. We have to do this in a way that we develop quality cases."
The investigation was a cooperative effort of the Marion Police Department, the McDowell County Sheriff's Office, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose prosecuted the case for the U.S. Attorney's Office.
