A resident of an assisted living facility accused of cutting another resident during a dispute will face his charge in McDowell County Superior Court.
On Jan. 19, a grand jury returned 161 true bills of indictment. A grand jury meets behind closed doors to consider if enough evidence is present for a case to be heard in Superior Court.
The panel indicted 34-year-old Danny Arthur Donaldson of Pinnacle Church Road in Nebo on one count of felonious assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
McDowell County sheriff's deputies were called to Cedarbrook Residential Center around 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Donaldson and 34-year-old Thomas Lee Copeland, who both live at the facility, got into a dispute over a woman, according to reports.
The documents stated that Donaldson took a swing at Copeland and the two began wrestling. That's when Donaldson stabbed the victim with a pocketknife, said investigators.
Copeland suffered five stab wounds to his left side at the bottom of his rib cage, authorities stated. He was taken to The McDowell Hospital.
