Have my rights been violated? Can they take my house? Who is responsible for the damages?
If you need legal advice but lack the financial means to hire an attorney, Friday is your day. The N.C. Bar Association's third annual Statewide Service Day is Friday.
Volunteer lawyers will provide free legal information over the phone from six call centers, including Asheville, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The statewide service project is part of the bar association's "4ALL" campaign, which seeks to provide civil legal aid to the poor.
Citizens in all 100 North Carolina counties are encouraged to participate. McDowell residents can call 1 (800) 289-0013.
For those with less-than-adequate English language proficiency, there will be a Spanish-language call center from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The phone number for that center had not been published at deadline Wednesday. The number will be displayed prominently during the event on the group's Web site, at www.ncbar.org.
The N.C. Bar Association is the largest voluntary professional legal association in the state. It is not affiliated with the N.C. State Bar, a mandatory organization.
