Police charged a Marion woman they say abused her daughter.
Investigative Sgt. Rick Gutierrez of the Marion Police Department charged Cathy Jo Blackburn, 37, of Fleming Avenue with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. She was released from custody on a written promise to appear in court.
Gutierrez said Blackburn spanked her 9-year-old daughter on an occasion earlier this year and left bruises on her legs and neck.
A family member noticed the bruising and called the Department of Social Service, the detective stated. Police received the case from DSS.
