A stalker turned out to be a repo man Thursday morning, police say, and his attempt to do his job turned into a crime.
Whitney Cash, 19, of High Street called the Marion Police Department at 9:17 a.m. and told the dispatcher she thought another driver was following her.
Cash headed to the Police Department, and the car pulled in the parking lot behind her 1999 Mercury Cougar. Johnny Hensley, 35, who works at Quality Used Cars, had a repossession order to seize the Cougar because Cash was late on her payments, according to Investigative Sgt. Rusty Jenkins.
Hensley told the officer he saw the car parked on West Wilhemenia Street and called for a wrecker. Before the wrecker arrived, Cash got in the vehicle and left, so Hensley followed her.
“She said he was stalking her, but his story is that he works (at Quality Used Cars), she bought the car there and he worked on her car last week, so she knows who he is,” said the sergeant.
Hensley was standing at the car in the Police Department parking lot talking to Cash, when she put the Cougar in motion, brushed Hensley with the vehicle and drove away, Jenkins stated.
He added that Hensley was not taken to the hospital by ambulance but told officers later that he was going to drive himself there to be checked out.
Hensley went to the magistrate’s office and took out a warrant against Cash for assault with a deadly weapon.
