Sex abuse allegations against a New Manna employee have police saying they fear there could be more victims.
Investigative Sgt. Rick Gutierrez of the Marion Police Department charged Michael Eugene Pearson, 30, of 7th Street in Marion with four counts of statutory sex offense, two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and one count of statutory rape. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $350,000 bond.
The alleged offenses occurred from October 2008 to May 2009. The victim, who was 15 at the time, was a relative of Pearson’s, according to Gutierrez.
The suspect was involved with both New Manna Baptist Church and New Manna Christian Academy and worked full time as the bus director, the detective stated. Since the allegations surfaced, he is no longer employed there.
However, the sergeant added, because Pearson came in contact with juveniles almost daily, he fears there might be other victims who haven’t come forward.
Anyone with further information is asked to call Gutierrez at 652-3231.
