A Marion teen was killed in a wreck off Hankins Road Tuesday afternoon.
Seth Tyler Carswell, 19, of Marion Street died at the scene of the crash on Cannon Road.
At 2:21 p.m., Carswell was driving a 1994 Ford Escort north, when he ran off the left side of the pavement, struck a tree and overturned, according to Trooper D.K. Hensley of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Hensley said Carswell did not brake before the crash.
"I thought it was a tree falling, it was so loud,” said Donna Walsh, whose house is across the street from the crash scene.
Members of Hankins-North Fork Volunteer Fire Department and McDowell County Rescue Squad cut the roof off the car to free the driver from the vehicle.
MAMA, the helicopter from Memorial Mission Hospital, was called to the scene, but Carswell died before being transported.
This is the seventh deadly wreck in McDowell this year and the fourth this month.
