For the last few years, dads at West Marion Elementary have been spending a little extra time with their kids during a special day in February.
The school holds its annual Dads and Doughnuts breakfast, where fathers are invited to eat breakfast with their children, meet other dads and work on a fun father-child project.
This Bruche McCoyle’s first year at the event.
“I think this is really good. It brings the kids and fathers together,” said McCoyle. “In my situation, I spend a lot of time at work and this gives us time to spend together.”
Tim Cadwell was back for a fourth year.
“I think they’re great and it’s nice to see the school doing something for the fathers,” he said.
The father of three still has two kids attending West Marion Elementary and likes having a chance to meet their friends and their dads.
“The best part of this breakfast is getting to interact with kids and their fathers,” said Cadwell.
Lowe’s provided building kits for each child. Many of the kids began putting together their kits with the help of their dads
“Lowe’s has provided building kits at no cost for the last few years for our breakfast,” said guidance counselor Wendy Gaffigan. “We’ve really appreciated all their help and support.”
With each year, the event grows because many of the dads encourage others to come.
“Each year it seems like we have more and more dads coming to Dads and Doughnuts,” said Gaffigan. “We hope that we can continue to do this. The kids and fathers really seem to enjoy it.”
