On Thursday, Amy Moomaw declared she would run for one of the three Marion seats up for grabs this year on McDowell County Board of Education.
Moomaw, 42, filed Thursday as a candidate for one of the Marion seats on the board. She is making her first attempt at seeking elected office. The three Marion seats that are up for election are held by Mark Cauthen, Kay Sinclair and Randy Williams.
“I am just really passionate about kids and their education and I want to be really involved and make a difference,” she said.
Moomaw said her three children are students in the county’s school system now. They attend school at the elementary and junior high levels.
If elected, Moomaw said she would try to offer a different point of view.
A resident of 537 Rutherford Road, she is a registered dietician working for both The McDowell Hospital and Autumn Care. When not working, she enjoys gardening and being with children.
The filing period ends at noon on Feb. 29.
