The McDonald’s in Old Fort reopened for business Monday with a new updated look and much more room for customers to enjoy their Quarter Pounders, Chicken McNuggets, milkshakes and the ever popular french fries.
After being closed for a week, the restaurant, located just off Interstate 40, reopened with a lot of changes. The remodeled and expanded McDonald’s is part of the fast food giant’s $1 billion redesign for all of its stores. Both McDonald’s in Marion went through the redesign late last year. K-21 Corp. of Marion has the franchises for the two in Marion and others in surrounding counties.
However, the McDonald’s in Old Fort is owned by businessman Don Rasnick of Asheville. He has eight stores including the one in Old Fort, said Kim Holbic, one of the managers.
“Our owner is an amazing man,” she said.
The McDonald’s in Old Fort was closed for a week as the final changes were made to the store. By Monday evening, workers were still putting the finishing touches on the new sign out front.
The building not only has the updated look that will soon be found in all McDonald’s but is considerably larger, too. The remodeling and expansion added 800 square feet to the existing store.
“We went from 52-capacity seating to more than 100-capacity seating,” said Holbic.
And like the one on West Henderson Street in Marion, the McDonald’s in Old Fort has a dual drive-through to allow more customers to get their food quickly.
In addition, this McDonald’s will soon have more workers. Holbic said the store now has 46 employees but there are plans to add 20 more as it goes to a third shift. This means the McDonald’s in Old Fort will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Although it is back in business, the McDonald’s in Old Fort will have a formal grand reopening starting on Tuesday, March 20. It will kick off a week’s worth of activities, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a Teacher’s Night and a visit from the re-enactors at Davidson’s Fort Historic Park. Friday, March 23 will feature bands and fireworks. The Old Fort Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to participate with the grand reopening. And Ronald McDonald is scheduled to be on hand as well, according to Holbic.
