On Monday night McDowell High School seniors and their parents will be able to get a little more information about the sometimes tricky process of applying for financial aid.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and give students and their parents information about the Federal Application for Student Aid (FASFA) and how to apply.
Skipp Watts with the College Foundation of North Carolina will be leading the talk focused on helping seniors with the application process.
Guidance counselor Kendall Waugh hopes that seniors and their parents will attend the meeting and learn a little more about this crucial part of applying for aid.
“He (Watts) will share information about FASFA and will also talk about the importance of applying and how to apply,” said Waugh.
As well as talking about the FASFA application Watts will also speak about loans ad grants.
“Watts will also interpret the different types of grants and loans for parents and students,” stated Waugh.
This event will help parents and students plan their financial aid strategies and prepare for an upcoming meeting that will help them read different types of financial aid information received from various schools.
“We will have FAFSA Day at McDowell Technical Community College on Feb. 18,” said Waugh.
FASFA Day is a national day that allows students and their parents to meet with trained professionals and read over financial reports from different colleges.
This helps families understand what kind of aid colleges are offering and helps them make better decisions about paying for college.
