Authorities recently arrested the ex-boyfriend and girlfriend pair they say teamed up to steal more than $87,700 worth of cash and other property from her current beau.
Detective Andy Manis of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Robert Hezekiah “Bobby” Patton, 23, of Tulip Drive in Marion with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, felony conspiracy and felony safecracking. He was also charged with a probation violation and two counts of failure to appear in court. He was taken into custody in lieu of bonds totaling $80,000.
Manis also charged Amber Nicole Black, 20, of Muddy Creek Road in Nebo with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, felony conspiracy and felony safecracking. She was taken into custody in lieu of bonds totaling $35,000.
Anthony Harold Lowery reported on Dec. 20 that someone entered his residence on Hidden View Loop in Marion and removed a safe from a closet in his home. The cash, stocks and savings bonds and jewelry inside the safe was valued at $87,750.
Manis stated that the two suspects once dated, and Black is Lowery’s current girlfriend.
The detective added that Black knew where the safe was located, and she made Patton aware of when he could get inside the residence, according to Manis.
After the crime, Patton fled to Florida. He was found and arrested at a St. Augustine-area motel a few days later. He has since been returned to McDowell County.
A Crimestoppers tip led authorities to recover the safe and $2,000 in cash.
