MHS jayvee split with North Buncombe

The McDowell Lady Titans junior varsity basketball team opened the season Wednesday night with a dominating 52-32 victory against North Buncombe.
Chelsea Ferguson led McDowell (1-0) with 13 points and four rebounds. Katie Davis also reached double figures with 12 points. Madalyn Davis added eight points. Taylor Settlemyre and Allie Browning chipped in five points each and Brooke Epley scored four points. Amber Fullbright, Erica Sisk and Shellie Riddle also added two points apiece.
North Buncombe 66, McDowell 59 (jayvee boys) — The Titans jayvees didn't fare as well, relinquishing an eight-point lead in the second half. North Buncombe scored 11 unanswered points to start the second half en route to a 66-59 win.
Caleb Harris (5 rebounds, 2 assists) led the Titans (1-1) in a losing effort with 14 points. Matt Ledford (12 points, 5 rebounds) and freshman Zach Moore (10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists) joined Harris in double figures. Randall Conley added nine points. Ryan Lambert and Tre Young chipped in seven points each and Michael Simolke scored two points.
McDowell is at T.C. Roberson next Tuesday (4 p.m. start—jayvee girls).
