MHS jayvees win handily

Both McDowell junior varsity basketball teams concluded their home schedules Tuesday night with a pair of wins against Asheville High School.

In jayvee girls action, the McDowell Lady Titans recorded their largest margin of victory to date this season, dismantling the Lady Cougars 72-11.

Thirteen different McDowell (14-0 overall, 10-0 MAC 4A/3A) players scored in the contest. The Lady Titans tallied the opening 31 points of the contest en route to another lopsided victory.

Freshman Riley Smith was the only player in double figures with 14 points and six rebounds. April Fulbright (6 assists) and Kassie Brackett added nine points each.

Karly McRary (5 rebounds) netted eight points. Victoria Laney chipped in seven points. Jessie Turbyfill (6 assists, 3 rebounds) and Kayla Bailey scored six and Tamara Blanton had five.

Erin Mills, D’Jan Jones, Victoria Nichols and Leslie Rice rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.

McDowell 50, Asheville 37 (jayvee boys)

The McDowell Titans junior varsity boys were also victorious Tuesday, beating Asheville 50-37.

Even though the game was competitive, McDowell (12-5, 8-2) held a safe working margin throughout the contest, leading by double digits most of the time.

Raekwon Miller recorded 20 points and five rebounds to lead the Titans. Coleman Arrowood had seven points and six rebounds. Isaac Hillman tallied five points and five rebounds.

Dakota Lister (4 assists) and Ryan Kincaid (4 rebounds) tallied four points each. Brady Ruiz and D.J. Martin netted three each, Patrick McClure chipped in two points and Tyler Farmer scored one point.

McDowell will be on the road Friday at A.C. Reynolds (4 p.m. start—jayvee girls).
