West girls beat East

The West McDowell Lady Spartans ran away from county rival East McDowell 51-26 Monday afternoon at Spartan Gym.

West McDowell (6-5 Foothills Conference) took control of the contest from the tip, leading wire-to-wire.

The Lady Spartans held East to one field goal in the first half, a 3-pointer from Carmen Silver (12 points, 5 rebounds) in the first three minutes of play. The result was a 27-11 halftime margin for West.

The Lady Spartans then tacked on an 8-0 run coming out of the break to put the game away.

Cheyenne Matson (3 assists, 3 rebounds) scored a game-high 18 points, including 12 in the first half to lead West.

Point Guard Micaiah Shelton (15 points, 6 assists, 6 steals) and post Ashlyn Wolfe (12 points, 5 rebounds) also scored among the starters.

Jenny Brown, Ashlynn Boone and Amanda Bingham contributed off the bench, adding two points apiece.

East McDowell’s Olivia Grant (5 rebounds) chipped in seven points. Madison Seagle tallied four points. Kayley Butner (2 points) and Kelsey Ledford (1 point, 8 rebounds) also scored in the contest.
