    A father, his two sons and four other men living in North Carolina are accused of military-style training at home and plotting "violent jihad" abroad, federal authorities said yesterday.

    Eastside Baptist Church has joined with Hearts with Hands to aid Hurricane Ike victims. The church, located on Harmony Grove Road, is now accepting donations including paper products, bottled water, baby clothing and other items, flashlights and batteries, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, sanitizing products, first aid supplies, over-the-counter medications, and check donations. Be sure to box items before donating and make sure items are in original packaging. You may also drop donations off at Affordable Tractor Sales. Ebenezer United Methodist Church will have its fall bazaar on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ham, sausage and egg biscuits will be sold from 7 to 11 a.m.; and smoked chicken, potato salad, dessert, and drink will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $7 per plate. Items for purchase will include Rada cutlery, handbags, yard sale tables, candles, handcrafted jewelry and more. The church is on Ebenezer Church Road in Old Fort. Parkers Chapel Church, located at 608 Jacktown Rd., will have a yard sale, and hot dog and bake sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Dr. Grant's office. Peppers Creek Baptist Church will hold a special singing Saturday at 7 p.m. with Charles Woodward and the Goforth family. East Marion Pentecostal Holiness Church will have a hot dog, hamburger and bake sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church is located at 200 Baldwin Avenue. First Presbyterian Church will continue studying the third in Dr. Thornton's series on Philippians entitled "Is There Joy in This Life?" For information, call 652-5717. Cross Mill Pentecostal Holiness Church, located at 75 Reservoir Road, will have a revival Sunday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. nightly, and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday. Victory Temple Full Gospel Church will hold a revival beginning Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., through Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. nightly. Brother Roy Scakes will be the guest evangelist. Pinnacle United Methodist Church, located 1383 Pinnacle Church Rd., will hold a revival beginning Friday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. nightly, and 11 a.m. Sunday during worship service. Also, Sunday, Oct. 5 is "Ole' Timers Day." A special potluck dinner will be served after. Carson's Chapel Church, located on Tom's Creek Road, will have an old-fashioned country breakfast and bake sale Saturday, Oct. 4. Cost is $6 for all-you-can-eat biscuits, gravy, assorted meats, grits, drink, etc. Children ages 6 to 12 eat for $3 and ages 6 and younger eat for free. Proceeds will go to a local mission project for rest home residents. First Baptist Church of Nebo, located at 5360 U.S. 70 East in Nebo, will hold revival services beginning Sunday, Oct. 5 through Thursday, Oct. 9 at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, and 7 p.m. nightly. Children services will be held at 6:30 p.m. nightly. Marion Christian Academy has a prayer breakfast on the second Saturday of each month from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the elementary campus, located at 551 Burma Road West. A simple breakfast will be served, for a donation, with emphasis on prayer concerns. For a prayer request, call 652-2033. Grace Baptist Church has started AWANA youth ministry, held every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. Classes are available for children ages 3-18. Cross United Methodist Church welcomes the community to join its team and become "All-Star Champions" each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. for morning worship, and 10:45 a.m. for Sunday School. For more information, call 652-4378. Providence United Methodist Church has begun Saturday evening services at 5:30 p.m. The church is located off Sugar Hill Road in Marion. New Testament Baptist Church will have Spanish-speaking service on Sundays at 3 p.m. Vein Mountain Missionary Baptist Church, located on U.S. 221 South, has services on Sundays at 10 a.m. for Sunday School, 11 a.m. worship service, 6 p.m. evening service and 7 p.m. Wednesday service. Clinchfield United Methodist Church has Sunday services beginning at 10 a.m. with Sunday school to follow. The CUC's and the youth meet Sunday evenings at 5 p.m. Wednesday night prayer service starts at 6:30 p.m. with choir practice following. For more information, call 652-6624. First United Methodist Church of Marion has a special praise and worship service the first Sunday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall with music, skits, video presentations, a message and more. Concord United Methodist Church hosts the United Methodist Women meeting the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. and the United Methodist Men meeting the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. For more information, call 433-5488. Greenlee Baptist Church has a deaf ministry. Interpreters will be provided for the worship services every Sunday at 10:55 a.m. and 7 p.m. For more information, call Rev. Ned Webb at 724-4589. McDowell Children's Ministry, a ministry for children of the community interested in participating in a life-changing program, meets twice monthly.
